Therapy Support & Services FAQ

Clear answers for a smoother start.

What can I expect in my first session?

Your first session is an opportunity for your psychologist to get to know you and discuss what brings you to therapy. You'll explore your concerns, goals, and what you hope to achieve. This session helps your psychologist understand your unique situation and allows you to ask any questions about the therapeutic process.

How does Medicare rebate work?

With a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you can receive up to 10 Medicare-subsidised psychology sessions per calendar year. Medicare provides a rebate of $98.95 per session. You'll need a referral from your GP to access these rebates. The gap fee varies depending on the psychologist's rates.

Can I use my private health insurance?

Yes, many private health insurance funds provide rebates for psychology services. The amount varies depending on your level of cover and insurance provider. We can provide you with receipts to claim directly with your health fund.

How long are sessions and how often do I need to attend?

The first session is 90 minutes long. Following sessions are about 50 minutes. Initially, weekly sessions are often most beneficial, but this can be adjusted based on your needs and progress. Some clients prefer fortnightly sessions, while others may need more intensive support initially.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

We use evidence-based approaches tailored to your specific needs, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, Schema Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness-based interventions, and person-centred therapy.
The approach we use will depend on your preferences and what works best for your situation.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Everything you share is kept strictly confidential, with very limited exceptions related to safety (if there's a risk of harm to yourself or others) or legal requirements. We'll discuss confidentiality limits in detail during your first session.
